Who do I call if a snowplow damages my mailbox?

1) Refer to the Brookline's Snow & Ice Policy. 2) Determine if your mailbox and post meet United States Postal Service & Federal Highway Administration guidelines. If not, replacement/repair will not be considered 3) Replacements are only considered if a town plow or town hired plow physically struck your mailbox, snow rolling off of a plow and striking a mailbox causing damage will not be considered for replacement as it is something that cannot be controlled. Any replacements/reimbursements will ONLY cover the cost of a standard wooden post and plain, standard, black mailbox.

USPS Regulations:

FHWA:

"The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has determined that wooden mailbox supports no larger than 4 inches by 4 inches, or a 2-inch diameter standard steel or aluminum pipe, buried no more than 24 inches, should safely break away if struck by a vehicle. According to FHWA, the mailbox must also be securely attached to its post to prevent separation if struck. See Exhibits E (page 22) and F (page 23) for examples of mailbox mountings and supports suggested by the FHWA."
