When to call 9-1-1 instead of the business line
Make the right call!

You may have heard stories about people dialing 9-1-1 for non-emergency calls and tying up those resources unnecessarily, but the opposite happens as well when someone calls a department's business line for an emergency not realizing those phone lines may not be monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  It is important to remember to dial 9-1-1 in the following situations when:

  • There is danger to life, property, or the environment
  • There is a crime in progress
  • There s a fire
  • Someone is experiencing a medical emergency and needs immediate assistance.

All other non-emergency calls should be directed to the department's business line.  For the Town of Brookline those numbers are:

Ambulance - (603) 672-6216

Fire Dept. - (603) 672-8531

Police Dept. - (603) 673-3755

Did you  know you can text 9-1-1 for emergencies in New Hampshire?  The flyer attached below provides instructions on how to do that.
